Vrijdag 16 juli kwamen we voor het eerst bijelkaar op de nieuwe lokatie: Communicatiebureau Berg Klein op het Prins Mauritsplein in Den Haag.
Friday July 16th we met for the first time at our new location: Berg Kleijn communicatie on the Prins Mauritsplein in The Hague.
The theme was Food for Thought. We started with Jennifer 8.Lee, a writer for The New York Times who delivered a funny, fast-paced presentation about the influence of and changes in Chinese food as it is cooked in the millions of 'Chinese' restaurants all over the world. In many instances it has little to do with the way people prepare food in China today.
Turns out Chinese people have NO idea what fortune cookies are as they originated in Japan.
The second video showed us Mark Bittman who, even though he is a non-vegetarian makes the case for eating less meat.
His talk was somewhat alarming and had me cutting down on meat for the time being.
The third and last speaker, Louise Fresco, spoke about the need for technology in food production and dismantled the romantic eco/farmers market notion as a solution for feeding the hungry masses. She made a plea for factory produced white bread and spoke with almost missionary passion about bread. At the end she handed out small chunks of bread to the audience.
The TED talks spawned lively discussions, with a large chunk devoted to the merits of taste and slow cooking.
Of course we all agreed kids should eat better and learn to appreciate the tast of real food.
